Vintage 1981 Fiorucci 8 Sunglasses – First Fiorucci Eyewear Collection – Made in Italy
Made in Italy in 1981
New Old Stock. Frame and lenses are in perfect condition, never worn.
Like no other brand, Fiorucci stands for the fusion of New York street fashion and subculture in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Fiorucci 8 was part of Fiorucci's very first eyewear collection in the spring of 1981. With its clear combination of curves and angles – the wings representing Fiorucci's «Angels» – it perfectly embodies Fiorucci's timeless identity and visual language. There have been dozens of frames inspired by this iconic design, but none came even close to the perfection of the 8/bis. An incredibly rare and highly wearable piece of art.
Fiorucci has been credited to the enduring appeal of designer denim as well as solidifying Madonna’s career – she performed there before the height of her fame. In 1982, Lycra was launched and Fiorucci was one of the first brands to use it in denim to create stretch jeans. Fiorucci was very much linked to glamourous club culture but also the disco-era fashion of the time. A 1977 feature from New York Magazine cites, «All it took this year to achieve instant chic, day or night, at the slickest New York party, or the trashiest, was a pair of $110 gold cowboy coots from Fiorucci.» When the legendary Studio 54 opened in New York (1977) Fiorucci organized the grand opening party with an international presence spanning Grace Jones to Bianca Jagger – thus giving the store instant street cred for fashion lovers and tourists alike. In the subway and on the walls of New York and London, Graffiti exploded. Keith Haring, the author that had raised to art this form of extemporaneous creativeness, worked one day and one night in the Milan shop and transformed it with his magic touch.
